The Sunny Home Manager 2.0 monitors all energy flows in the home, automatically identifies potential savings and facilitates efficient use of solar energy. It makes intelligent energy management even easier and more cost-effective by combining the functions of the Sunny Home Manager Bluetooth and the SMA Energy Meter in a single device starting in April 2017.


A high-performance measurement solution for intelligent energy management in PV systems with SMA devices. The SMA Energy Meter calculates phase-exact and balanced electrical measured values and communicates these via Ethernet in the local network. In this way, all data on grid feed-in and purchased electricity as well as PV generation by other PV inverters can be communicated to SMA systems frequently and with a high level of precision.

Integrating the SMA Energy Meter establishes, in all systems, an ideally coordinated system configuration that guarantees the highest performance and stability with the best cost savings and increased self-consumption.

Data Manager M powered by EnnexOS

In combination with the new Sunny Portal powered by ennexOS, the Data Manager M optimizes communication, monitoring and control of PV systems with up to 25 SMA devices. Based on the new IoT platform for energy management, ennexOS from SMA, the Data Manager M not only replaces the SMA Cluster Controller S, but its expandability also means that it is already well-equipped to handle the new business models of the energy market of the future.

Particularly impressive is its innovative and highly efficient user interface, which has been standardized for both Data Manager M and the new Sunny Portal powered by ennexOS. A range of intuitive assistance functions for the Data Manager M, inverters and Sunny Portal powered by ennexOS significantly reduce the amount of time involved in commissioning and parameterization.

SMA Com Gateway

The good news for all owners of PV systems with RS485 data communication is that with the SMA Com Gateway, even existing systems can benefit from all options of the modern SMA Speedwire data communication.

Whether it’s a system upgrade or expansion, the SMA Com Gateway allows the use of the SMA Cluster Controller and thus integration of current and future system monitoring and system control solutions, such as commercial energy management. The PV system’s investment security is therefore guaranteed.


Combined with highly efficient SMA inverters, the SMA Cluster Controller is the central communication unit for system monitoring, recording data and controlling large-scale PV plants.

Through a variety of analog and digital in- and outputs as well as fast data exchange via an Ethernet-based data interface (e.g., Modbus TCP), a wide range of applications can be realized, from feed-in management to sensor technology integration.

Users benefit from easy system configuration that is achieved with the integrated web server. In addition, there are infinite options for visualizing yields via the Sunny Portal connection. Alongside the standard solution for large-scale commercial PV plants equipped with up to 75 devices, SMA now also offers a version for small-scale commercial PV systems with up to 25 devices (available in select markets).

The SMA Fuel Save Controller (FSC) is a key component of the SMA solution for photovoltaic/ diesel hybrid systems. It allows the use of cost-efficient solar energy to generate power in order to lower fuel consumption from diesel generators. As the interface connecting the diesel generator, the PV system and the load, it manages need-based PV feed-in according to load and generation profiles of the system as a whole. The FSC performs comprehensive grid management functions, ensures maximum operational safety, and minimizes operating expenditure and CO2 emissions. The second generation of the FSC is available for system sizes of 100 kW to 50 MW. Hybrid systems with SMA technologies offer modular expansion at any time and optimum system control through remote monitoring.

With the Modbus protocol interface, SMA makes the flexible integration of inverters possible. The benefits are obvious. Through the use of this well-known, public industry standard, other providers can integrate SMA devices into their systems without having to follow the SMA-specific inverter protocol. System data is transferred via this standardized protocol for further processing and can, as such, be flexibly integrated into any system regardless of the manufacturer. The importance for system planning: You can use SMA inverters in your preferred standard system at any time without having to take manufacturer specifics into account. Direct inverter integration into control room systems or the connection of inverters in building automation systems are both ideal applications.
